Building Enterprise Leaders

Product Manager at NextRequest
San Francisco, CA, US

NextRequest is growing, and we’re hiring our first full-time Product Manager to help us realize our vision of making it as simple and easy as possible for governments to manage and respond to public records requests. We’re a small, mission-driven team committed to using technology and design thinking to reshape how the public interacts with government. As Product Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in building a product that builds trust between government and the public and makes a historically onerous and paper-based process fast, secure, and user-friendly.

In this role, you’ll work with leadership to synthesize market research, user feedback, technical approaches and business requirements from across the company into a vision for the product, then help break it down into objectives that enable the team to execute it. As Product Manager you will play a central role that touches every part of the company, as well as the government customers we work with and the millions of people that they serve.

What You’ll Do

  • Gather information from  founders, customers, designers, engineers, and support and sales staff to inform the product vision
  • Set the high-level product vision and scope and prioritize specific tasks that will allow us to execute it
  • Build buy-in for the product roadmap with both colleagues and customers
  • Set goals and define and evaluate quantitative and qualitative measures of success for those goals
  • Analyze business and customer data to gain insight and track progress towards company goals
  • Monitor emerging market, technical, and regulatory trends to develop a future-focused vision that anticipates changes that would affect the product direction

What We’re Looking For

  • At least two years (preferably four years) of experience as a Product Manager for a web application, preferably at an early-stage company or in another fast-moving environment
  • An approach that ensures that input from all relevant sources informs product decisions
  • Experience balancing divergent priorities and emergent needs with the ability to take decisive action and maintain focus
  • Ability to define a clear product plan and build buy-in across the company
  • Comfort with both creating a high-level roadmap and breaking features into detailed user stories for our designer and engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working with distributed teams
  • Ability to be patient, persistent, and creative while working in the context of government laws and regulations
  • A collaborative, empathetic, adaptive, ethical, and positive approach
