All robot assembly, configuration, and testing occur at the Cobalt Headquarters in San Mateo, CA. We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our fast-paced team to help define the future of robotics with us as we scale to mid-volume production. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for someone with a hands-on background to scale the production of sophisticated robots in a high-growth environment.

Essential Job Functions

    • Hands-On Manufacturing Support: Provide hands-on support to the assembly and test teams, resolving day to day production issues alongside our technician team. Work closely with ME team to grow and manage our Manufacturing processes and partnerships.
    • Scaling Production: Design, build and manage the Cobalt production line as it scales, including assembly and build process, factory layout, labor, continuous process improvement, testing, and quality management.
    • Production Planning: Provide decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing and managing production schedules; estimating future production requirements; ensuring robots reliably fulfill orders on-time. 
    • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing and production; work closely with Mechanical engineering team to drive DFMA 

Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain product and process tracking databases across build cycles
    • Develop more efficient production workflows for robot assembly
    • Maintain deep hands-on knowledge of the product in order to lead quality inspections
    • Lead, train, and mentor production team to perform at peak efficiency

Requirements

    • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
    • 3+ years of professional experience working in a Manufacturing environment
    • Experience in applying Manufacturing methodologies, such as DFMA, FMEA, Lean, 5S
    • Excellent project management skills with a strong ability to manage scope/schedule/budget
    • Ability to make decisions and take accountability for those decisions, with limited information, in high pressure, time-limited situations
    • Detail-oriented with a strong quality mindset
    • Obsessed with driving strategic, high-speed continuous improvement
    • Enjoy working in a highly-collaborative team environment

Bonus Points

    • Experience at a hardware startup
    • Experience designing mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD
    • Software experience (automated test scripts in Python, ROS, Linux)
    • Experience building and/or running a production line
